Gum is something that we carry all the time. We can buy a whole pack of the gums for 99 cents at mostly every stores or markets such as liquor stores and Walmart. Every day in life, I chew gums for many different reasons. I chew it because it keeps my mouth clean and gets rid of the bad smells of my mouth. But in reality, the gums cause some damages to our body.
The gum was well known to the public from a guy named, Thomas Adams. He patented a machine for producing the gum. Adams produced the gums that are almost the same as the ones that we chew now days. By 1888, Adams’s Tutii-Frutti became the first chewing gum to be sold in vending machines. These gums were spherical shape. In 1928, Walter Diemer successfully invented red colored bubble gum. Most of the gums are produced based on these previous inventions and now we are able to chew these gums whenever and where ever we want. As we chew gums, we can get rid of the terrible smells of our mouth, we can also be more concentrated because the brain becomes more active, and we can decrease the heart rates when we are under nervousness or pressure. However there are bad results that we can get from chewing the gums. First of all, the gum makes a face into a square shape. Since chewing requires the jaws to move up and down, it develops the jaw muscles and makes the muscles to project out of the surface. So then the face becomes like a square shape. Second of all, the sugar in the gum decays the teeth. According to the researches, we discovered that the gum decays a tooth faster than candy bar.
From now on, we should avoid chewing gums. Chewing for 5 minutes is allowable, but chewing more than an hour is unbeneficial. Get a habit of brushing teeth rather than chewing gums, do some teeth flossing, and keep your teeth safe from gums.
